Lucy's been with me a little over a month now and though she wasn't terribly underweight when she showed up outside, she continues to be *very* food insecure.

She's also very growly toward and swats at Josephine, which has been a definite challenge. It seems more motivated by fear than outright aggression though.
Other than that, she's a really great kitty who loves hugs. She's becoming more playful, too.

@nevar23 aww...my previous cat was starving when I found her (sociopaths had abandoned her outside as a de-clawed cat) and was very concerned with the bottom of the food bowl peeking through for most of her life.

@ElizabethLee Oh no! Abandoning a declawed cat is a special kind of evil.
Having known a lot of rescue kitties, I'm kind of used to food insecurity, but Lucy's is a lot. I do hope she gets more comfy, even if it never entirely goes away.

@nevar23 yeah, it was over 20 years ago and I still get angry thinking about it. My current one came to me with a lot of hangups and trauma but she started to settle down after a few years of positive reinforcement and a stable environment.

@ElizabethLee That's wonderful. It's amazing what they can overcome with patience and love.

@nevar23 I'll admit to wondering if she was ever going to get better. We're working on her looking to me for reassurance when she's scared at a noise instead of running under the bed.

@ElizabethLee I understand that wondering. I hope your baby continues to grow more confident, even if it's slow growth. She's lucky to have you!

@nevar23 I need you to tell her that when she's mad I won't let her eat bird feeder birds
