The measles outbreak in South Carolina is the largest in the country and has spread to three other states.
It’s growing at an alarming speed.
Over 500 people in quarantine and 200 are actively infected.
This was completely preventable.
These people didn’t need to get sick.
Measles can kill. It can disable. It can leave you deaf and blind.
It’s a vaccine preventable illness.
Shame on everyone creating distrust in the vaccine and refusing to do their part for public health.

@broadwaybabyto There’s now an outbreak here in Washington state because an unvaccinated South Carolina family visited an unvaccinated family in Snohomish County. And an unvaccinated college student from here visited South Carolina. Happy holidays. Washington state has a ~95% measles vaccination rate. So it won’t spread as fast here. We also have a really functional public health system. But there are still people who believe the lies and endanger so many. #vaccines #rfkjr #measles

@broadwaybabyto I was vaccinated against measles as a kid in 1967. Usually that suffices for a reasonable risk profile. But I requested a refresher a few weeks ago.
The doctor asked why. I said, that I meet U.S. citizens as part of my job. He nodded and proceeded.

@masek @broadwaybabyto I have to ask mine. I was in that window measles vaccination was not reqired, and had it at the age of forteen. Fever rising beyond 41 deg. Celsius, emergency doctor twice and sitting in an ice bath. Wonder if the protection lasts.

@Bugspriet @broadwaybabyto Vaccines are a probability game. They just increase the chance of not getting ill, but the probability decreases a bit every year.

@masek I know. And I was not even vaccinated, but actually sick. Measles attack the immune system and make it forget. So I wonder, if the sickness prevents as well as vaccination. Nevertheless, has to get some other stuff (Tetanus as a summer barefoot walker e.g.) and will ask. @broadwaybabyto

@energisch_ @broadwaybabyto Oñd folks and babies are the most vulnerable, along with immunocompromised people. I don’t have to worry about measles because I had it as a child, before vaccination was available. I was one of the lucky ones; no complications, just misery for a week or so.
