Might as well share it now: I built an ActivityPub integrated social network for athletes.

@javahippie@feditrack.javahippie.net There are no prebuilt Docker Containers, Binaries or documentation on how to set this up. You can find the GitHub Repo linked in the Footer. I will not accept hundreds of users into the instance, but if you are interested in hosting this, I will help you build from source and run it.
This is on purpose. I don't plan to invest half of my time to maintain this, and making it easily accessible for others would send the wrong message
@javahippie@mainz.social @javahippie@feditrack.javahippie.net oh wow, this is pretty amazing. I was discussing something like this with @marcphilipp a while ago. I'll definitely check it out!

@WTL Should be working now (hopefully without refreshing the cache)
@javahippie Will check it out!

@javahippie this is an awesome idea!

Looking at the repository, do I get it right that it was at least partially vibe coded (there is a CLAUDE.md file), and is not free software (there is no license that would allow anyone to use it)?
If the former is true, the latter sadly cannot be fixed, but maybe I am wrong about the forner. If I am, could you place it under a free software/open source license?

@nik You are right about this, the project started as a test how far I could get with AI assisted coding. I would love to attach a permissive license, but as this is my first contact with AI coding at all, I‘m not sure about licensing implications, do you have a resource for that?

@javahippie I was thinking about doing something like that on my own, I'd be interested to try it out. Does it also support strength training, or only walk/run/bike?

@javahippie You'd need to trace all the projects your AI tooling copied from, analyse their licenses, and derive the possible licenses you could put your own project under.

@nik Having the code without any license now would violate them just the same, I guess. Will read up on the topic a little more, seems to be a gray area.

@javahippie Nope. Having no license means that noone except you is allowed to use FitPub, and copying other people's (FOSS) code for your own private use is perfectly legal.

@nik Thanks for the input. I‘m in the process of blogging about the whole ordeal, because while I was surprised by not hating the results, ethical and environmental concerns still persist. The aspect you mentioned is an aspect that should be added there

@nik Ah you are right, the distribution clauses.
I'll think a bit about this. I will pick up the coding by hand anyways now, and will restructure and refactor big chunks. If I do this for everything that concerns logic, it might already be enough, after some thinking.
As everything in there is pretty trivial or common geocoding algorithms, the level of creation might be debatable in the first place.

@javahippie I for one would be willing to let the origins fall under the carpet, if the project ia turned into something mostly made by a human, and the "AI" parts get down to a mere learning opportunity

@nik That was the plan from the start, I just expected I had to pick it up by hand sooner. Again, thanks for your remarks!

@javahippie this looks really nice. Thanks for putting the effort into this.

@brian Hi Brian, thanks for reaching out! That looks interesting, I'd be happy to try and work on compatibility between Fitpub and Fedletic. Don't know when I will find time, but should be possible to do this non-breaking. Will take a look at your project, too!
