OK, so JD Vance having a 100 car motorcade travelling through the streets of Milan is one way of projecting political power.

But if he really wanted to impress Europeans he could have just gone and done his own supermarket shopping.

@ProjectFearlessness I always respected Angela Merkel. Would love to stand behind her on line and discuss her plans for those zucchini while we wait.

@ASprinkleofSage @seb321 @ProjectFearlessness Still better than bringing American food to Italy. Just barely.

@ProjectFearlessness I once saw a presidential motorcade in NYC. Seems it's standard practice to have an ambulance at the end. Operating on the assumption that somebody wants to kill or injure the president?

For that reason alone I don't want to be president.

@ProjectFearlessness Upon further thought, if I were VP and could command an international fleet I might bring an empty plane to Italy so I could fly a full load of Italian food to the US.

Not that there isn't some good Italian food made here, but we're talking the REAL THING, made for the Olympics. That's gotta be extra extra!

They cannot have nice things. They cannot appreciate them.
They would rather use their tongues to literally & figuratively lick boots. That is how oppressed and cowardly and wicked they are.

Maybe, but I don't know if the two things are connected. All I know is that if I were JD Vance and the last time I went to Italy I killed the Pope, I'd have a ridiculous amount of security too.

Re the pineapple on pizza 'controversy' 😁

My dear friend Franco, that runs Franco's my every morning Italian place, has to sit down, clutching his Naples born and bred heart, muttering, "Santa Maria", at the mere mention of such an aberration.

                    HOWEVER...

Dylan the French born waiter reacted like someone having an allergic attack when he saw that Franco had on display 'Pistachio Croissants'... Ashen faced it was, "Non! Sacre bleu! Abomination! Merde!!!!"

                    😂

As you know, in Vance's world doing the supermarket shopping and the housekeeping are the wife's jobs. His wife will agree. However, I'm almost sure they let a maid do these jobs.

Exactly. Here in Europe we can laugh at the ludicrous notion of bringing a plane full of American food to Italy, but we're also angry at the hideous carbon footprint and cost of all this.
I imagine in America it's the same except there is no laughter, just anger.

@ProjectFearlessness Sure anger... but anyone with any gastronomic experience knows better than to take food to Italy. Or France. Or anywhere with real butter, cheese, or non growth hormone meat.

I’m an emotional human, and raised by French trained chef, a bit of a foodie. I have literally wept at food I’ve been served in Italy because it was so good. One Nonna taught me how to make meatballs that armies would fight for. (And given that she was old enough to have seen the rise and fall of the Romans...) I have had espresso so good I asked the man to marry me. Fruit and veg so fresh you want to slap their faces.

I cannot imagine bringing food to Italy. What an insult. And such a stupid insult too. Worthy of this regime, I suppose.

@thecrushedviolet @ProjectFearlessness I'm a US-American but grew up in Germany. Long story short, my family knew a LOT of US service members over there. Some of them did live on the economy and tried to experience the culture. But many, many of them complained about how different everything was, which of course made everything bad, and the food was all wrong, and they didn't leave their base if they could help it, etc etc.... It was a damn shame. I always pitied them.

@wesdym No joke here. I was stating the obvious. I may have said: "could have you expected anything different?" That thing of flying a plane of food is playing overwhelmingly the american cliché.

I add that probably also Italians would do the same if they were to go to America, but instead of a plane full of Coca-cola and processed foods (as I prejudicially expect it to be), they would hide spaghetti and tomato sauce within their clothes.

OK, so JD Vance having a 100 car motorcade travelling through the streets of Milan is one way of projecting political power.

But if he really wanted to impress Europeans he could have just gone and done his own supermarket shopping.

@ProjectFearlessness Vance brought a whole plane load of food with him. To Italy! Maybe he's worried about being poisoned, or maybe he just prefers Wonder Bread, Cheez Whiz, and Beer Nuts to local cuisine.

@ProjectFearlessness He brought his own food. To Milan. To Italy.
