No, really. He took 1 entire plane full of American food. To Italy!

@ProjectFearlessness In his defence, he has an extremely fragile ego, very few stable principles beyond self-interest, and suffers from severe Small Dick Energy. This stuff may seem stupid, but it's important for his emotional health. Being the buttboy for a rising fascist regime and having a face that's ludicrously easy to mock takes a lot out of him. Have some compassion.

@ProjectFearlessness Well, considering the reception he got at the olympics I bet half the country would try to poison him first chance they got

It reminds me of how many people said it was 'bad writing' that the rich Americans on White Lotus never left the hotel to eat literally anything else in Italy, but I always assumed that was the point.

They really are all just... like that.

@thecrushedviolet The tourists you notice are the ones who stand out. Most don't, and I don't think that's different for any demographic. The Ugly American is a very real thing. But there are Ugly everyone else, too. I've met them. The vast majority of tourists, from anywhere, probably draw no special notice from anyone. When I visit Canada, they usually think I'm Canadian, too, unless I tell them differently. And I admit I don't know why that is, but it's still a fact.

@wesdym I was referencing fictional characters that I believe were specifically shown to behave that way as a storytelling device about that specific type of person, not the whole of US tourists.

@wesdym No joke here. I was stating the obvious. I may have said: "could have you expected anything different?" That thing of flying a plane of food is playing overwhelmingly the american cliché.

I add that probably also Italians would do the same if they were to go to America, but instead of a plane full of Coca-cola and processed foods (as I prejudicially expect it to be), they would hide spaghetti and tomato sauce within their clothes.

@ProjectFearlessness President Carter took 12 international trips. He used a single Boeing jet, and his security protocol was managed by the Secret Service and the country he visited.

Traveling with an army and armored cars was a Ronny idea. Every president since has increased the payload and number of flying units.

Each one of the planes used by VP Bootlicker McCouchFucker costs at a bare minimum, $200k per hour to operate. That's not the fully loaded big planes that carry the armored vehicles. Those are double the cost.

But we don't have the funding for kids to have school lunches. Ok, sure Jan.

Exactly. Here in Europe we can laugh at the ludicrous notion of bringing a plane full of American food to Italy, but we're also angry at the hideous carbon footprint and cost of all this.
I imagine in America it's the same except there is no laughter, just anger.

OK, so JD Vance having a 100 car motorcade travelling through the streets of Milan is one way of projecting political power.

But if he really wanted to impress Europeans he could have just gone and done his own supermarket shopping.

                                        Good for Angela Merkel!

"It's a small world, and it smells bad. 🎵
                                        I'd buy another, if I had 🎵
                                        back, what I paid 🎵
for another motherfucker in a motorcade. 🎵

                                        One million points of light.
                                        One Billion dollar Vision Thing!"

                                        ~ Sisters of Mercy.

Who paid for the goddamn motorcade? Don't say, "the taxpayer".
It was the People's Money. It was Public Funds.
It was money that could have gone to feed the hungry and homeless Americans.
That money was stolen from the common person.

@ProjectFearlessness I always respected Angela Merkel. Would love to stand behind her on line and discuss her plans for those zucchini while we wait.
