The wild thing is watching companies spend years ignoring accessibility (building div soup with misused ARIA) and now seeing AI models fail to understand their sites. Turns out AI can’t infer structure where none exists.

@annaecook The flipside is that the better the craft you put in, the easier it is to scrape it.

I don't let that deter me, but it doesn't spark joy.

@polarbirke I hear that, and feel it. 🥲

I'm using the whole AI part of this to sell "make things accessible you dorks" to leadership (again), which isn't fun, but I'll do whats gotta be done I suppose

@annaecook It's an angle for sure.

Just like it is to argue for accessibility by pointing out the huge untapped consumer potential.

It shouldn't be necessary, but capitalism.

@schmidt_fu @annaecook Yup. AI is also shit at drag-and-drop and in general very mouse-specific gestures in an agentic sense, so now a bunch of tools don't work because it doesn't have working eyes or hands. Oh no, if only there were guidelines to follow to make sure this wouldn't be an issue /s
