Today, something #pagan from me
(a thread).
Valentine’s day is a day of #Aphrodite for me, whom I venerate - or as some modern pagans like to say, whom I work with. There is also a pagan group called the Cult of Aphrodite Asteria, which has moved the ancient Feast of Eros to Valentine's Day (see text in image).1/x

I like to dedicate my romance novels to Aphrodite, because she is, of course, the goddess of love, romance, beauty, sensuality and related topics. What is less well known today is that she had other aspects in ancient times. Among other things, she was worshipped as ‘Aphrodite Areia’, a goddess of war, depicted in full armour and with weapons, and of course she is also mythologically associated with the god of war, Ares.

At the risk of sounding cheesy or cringe-worthy, I’d like to invite you to celebrate the beauty in your life. And celebrate #love. Especially in these often challenging, difficult times. You can celebrate love even if you're completely unromantic, or if you are #aromantic.

Because of course, there are many different kinds of love, not just romantic love. People in ancient times knew this too. And back then there were different terms for all the many forms of love, for instance ‘agape’ for a divinely inspired, selfless kind of love.

By the way, a pagan book about Aphrodite that I can recommend is "Pagan Portals - Aphrodite: Encountering the Goddess of Love & Beauty & Initiation" by Irisanya Moon. And today is not only Valentine's Day, but also International Book Giving Day.
