@ZLabe @Luke_Drury What strikes me most is that the second derivative of the long term trend is still positive, there is even not the hint of an inflection point

@jknodlseder @ZLabe Yes sadly. And most people are totally unaware of this.

@Luke_Drury @jknodlseder @ZLabe Do you think if people understood more about conditions during the Pliocene, the urgency would register? Or is it more of an empathy problem, not being able to associate one's actions with harm/benefit to future people?

@jknodlseder @ZLabe @Luke_Drury The last 10 years look like linear growth to me. (who cares about the long term trend and for what?) The 2nd derivative for that period should be basically zero - except for 20/21 where we should even see a brief negative acceleration (followed by a quick fossil rebound). Linear growth is still (pretty) bad, but better than a continued acceleration

@lukeryanps @Luke_Drury @jknodlseder @ZLabe Almost all people know (there's not information shortage), but many western governments don't even want to stop fossil subsidies. All of them know exactly what to do, but refuse to go to work. I think it's safe to say that the vast majority of voters did not vote for the deconstruction of the ecosystem.

@not_even_wrong @Luke_Drury @jknodlseder @ZLabe When I talk to people about trees within 300 miles of the South Pole and sea levels, you know, like 50 feet higher than now at 400ppm, 3 or 4 million years ago, they mostly don't seem to already know about that. Long-term cooperative effort may be the bigger hurdle? This is consistent with human history (tragedy of the commons). *We* will have to evolve (emotionally, socially) to deal with the now irreversible climate disaster, huh?

@ZLabe I did have lots to say in support. But, well yup. I edited myself.
