You don't need to pay Apple or start a new subscription to unleash your creativity. We asked creatives what free software they use to get the job done and here are their picks.

I hardly ever see it mentioned, but I liked Yoshimi, I wrote a python prog that sent osc messages into it to play random sounds (raspi) - music theory is hard!

@kde I wish all of the open-source creative software developers could collaborate on a consistent user interface design language in order to improve the #UX and #Usability.
-
They also forgot:
- @GIMP (Do I need to mention why?)
- @libreoffice (An office suite without AI BS.)
- @ONLYOFFICE (Another office suite for cloud hosting.)
- @zrythm@mastodon.social (Another great up and coming FOSS DAW. Mentioned but this is the account.)
- Scribus (https://www.scribus.net) (A desktop publishing app.)
An honorable mention to the commerical DAW Bitwig Studio, not FOSS, but has an official Linux native flatpak, which is more than a certain video editor which is supposedly also "Linux native". -
@jaywilson1988 @kde @ardour @mixxx yes #rosegarden (still rather active) and #yoshimi #synth

@kde@floss.social @Adam@social.lein.us this probably won’t happen any time soon because most KDE apps use qt while most GNU apps use GTK but yeag I agree with you

@esm @cameron_bosch why not? They're free. I've used GIMP for album stuff. I've used Libre Office for documents.

Not strictly free, but the free version of DaVinci Resolve (video editing) has a ton of utility, they aren't stingy with the features they allow. Linux support as well, for those who partake in such things.
