I got tested and it turned out I had no immunity, so I got revaccinated this week. Don’t listen to the science deniers: measles is not a trivial disease if you’re 5 or 55 and we can no longer rely on herd immunity.
@overholt For a lot of people in the US, getting tested costs money out of pocket but just getting a new booster is covered. I'm in the demographic for needing one except every time I went to a new college they wanted proof of vaccination and it was easier to just get boosted than to come up with the medical records.

@overholt same! Very happily revaxxed now, glad you were also able to!

It's not your age, at least that's not the whole story.
In your age group, you only got vaccinated once - it was believed to be sufficient back then. Today, there are two measles vaccinations which has been proved to be much better/longer lasting.
Still, the result is the same - better get vaccinated one time more often than not!

@overholt I’m a little older than you, and also had no immunity, but they suggested shingle vaccines instead of measles again.

@overholt
TY, I was going to ask doc if I'm too young for the shingles shot at 48, I'll add measles/mumps/rubella to the list. -

@overholt @MissConstrue same -- born in 1971, got a titre maybe 5 years ago and discovered i had no measles immunity!! got me a new MMR right quicklike. AND the shingles vax too (at a different time).

@MissConstrue @overholt Get both!

@MissConstrue @overholt Get both!
@wcbdata @MissConstrue yeah, why choose? Just do them separately
-
@overholt I was born in '67 and had to get revaccinated in college due to something like this. I supposed I should talk to my doctor, right?

@overholt Another good reason to also get the Shingrix shot. There's some evidence that it's protective against dementia.
@Jude_theone479001 @overholt Maybe just not at the same time? Whew.. that second dose was a doozy! That night my heart raced a good 30 bpm higher and a few hours of flu like symptoms about 10 hours after getting it.

@Jude_theone479001 @overholt Correct.. Just want people who consider themselves "relatively healthy" to be aware. After my first shot I just assumed it was going to be a cake walk!

@overholt This is really interesting. I'm wondering if anyone who's replied is in the UK? We can't just request vaccines on the NHS, for example I wasn't eligible for a free flu jab this year, but this is something I could look into getting done privately, esp as I have a health plan through work instead of a pay rise

@callunavulgaris @overholt I'm in the UK, and had the full spread of jabs in 2019. When I heard there was a fresh outbreak of measles near my family I visited my local GPs to be told the NHS has no records of my childhood jabs from the 1970s. The doctor said there was no harm in having them all again 40+ years later.
