I need employment, *urgently*. I am not picky. My family needs to eat, and that overrides everything else. Please, does anybody out there work at a company that has machine learning or Python programming positions? Would you be willing to recommend me? I can demonstrate my abilities to you, first, if you need convincing, or I can share git repos.

I'm autistic and, based on the feedback, apparently I don't interview well -- it's not clear to them that I have the necessary skills.
But I know my stuff. I've been doing this for 30 years.
I am so unbelievably frustrated and discouraged right now, and my anxiety is through the roof. I can't do this again. I was unemployed for almost the entire year of 2024, due to layoffs, and it was profoundly stressful and terrifying. And here I am again. FML

@hosford42
I’m sorry AAron, what type of languages do you code in what’s some of the types of projects you have been involved in? Have you ever managed other coders?I’m in a similar place right now, along with a few others. So if I see I of anything I will fwd your way!

@EVDHmn Python & SQL primarily, but I'm quick to pick up new languages as needed. Most of my *workplace* experience is in ETL and ML. I also have 30 years of algorithm design projects in my personal time, mostly ML-related.
I was on the team that developed Bank of America's automated financial assistant, Erica, just before LLMs hit, and have a patent from my time there for an anaphora resolution (natural language processing) algorithm. It serves ~10 million customers.
I'm cofounder of a startup developing novel explainable/interpretable machine learning algorithms, but we are too early to get paid for it. We've worked extensively with hyperdimensional computing (HDC), knowledge graphs, rule-based learning, and other interpretable methods.
I haven't managed other coders, but I have been in roles involving leadership. My forte is in problem solving, technical leadership, and engineering, not management.

@hosford42 @EVDHmn Aaron, you seem like a capable dude. You might get some more responses by posting again with your experience, qualifications, and the #FediHire tag. Oh, and your rough location if you're looking to work in person. I hope this difficult phase passes quickly for you.
