"The toolbox isn’t particularly varied. President Trump is using all the instruments: the reported quotas for ICE arrests; the paramilitary force made up of thugs drunk on their own brutality; the spectacle of random violence, particularly in city streets; the postmortem vilification of the victims. It’s only natural that our brains struggle to find logic in what we are seeing. There is a logic, and this logic has a name. It’s called state terror."

The logic is that they are deliberately causing collapse of the 'old system ' in order to build a new system based on their ideology of techno-humanity : robots, brain implants, AI enhanced human thought....all the dystopian sci-fi the 'Tech-Bros' digested in their formative years. -

The mention about arrest quotas reminded about a historical example.

@andrewstroehlein @reticuleena
Each time I see photos of these thugs (and their varying clothing & equipment), I'm wondering whether they would qualify as a "well regulated militia"… -

@andrewstroehlein Thank you. A very impactful piece. #MashaGessen is uniquely qualified to report on suppression by government entities. The perspective by a person who was born in the #USSR and lived the most part of their adult life in #Russia and the #US connects the dots how totalitarian regimes survive by inflicting fear and paralysis on a society.

I’ve only read one book of hers, but is a fascinating/horrifying read: https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-future-is-history-how-totalitarianism-reclaimed-russia-masha-gessen/3a2fa4df54dd13f4?ean=9781594634543&next=t

@andrewstroehlein If only the very same media company hadn’t spent the last (how many?) years glorifying, whitewashing, sane-washing, normalizing, excusing, both-sidesing, covering up for…..the monster at the top of the MAGA movement.
“sounded more presidential” etc, etc.
NYT could have single-handedly ended his political career years ago, but chose not to.

And the NYT helped peddle it, going as far back as the Bush administration. They helped launder the Nazi logic used to build this police state under the guise of The War on "Terror".

US obviously has our own issues that you cannot possibly understand. We can't hold back tech. We need to figure out how to work with it.

@contrasocial @andrewstroehlein Media malpractice.
“We were fighting to save Greenland for Denmark,” Trump reminded the WEF audience. “Big, beautiful piece of ice. It’s hard to call it land. It’s a big piece of ice.” He continued, also reminding them, “The United States was then compelled —we did it, we felt an obligation to do it— to send our own forces to hold the Greenland territory. And hold it we did, at great cost and expense.”

@grammasaurus @andrewstroehlein NYT has been showed their bias and basically rendered "fake news" since Trump 2016. They are still trying to be relevant, but they have been busted too many times.
