@GPJohnston It is!
And I have to say that I’m even more impressed by your photos now. Especially the last one you posted.
So impressive!@kolombiken Thanks!

Yesterday I met two(!) water rails. Got a tip that a rail had been seen in a ditch near some pipes. But it turned out to be two! Lucky!

This is the first time I’ve been able to photograph a rail.
Super difficult cause they are so fast and always moving, running and, of course, hiding a lot.@kolombiken oh wow! Great pic. I’ve only ever heard them.

@helenclayton Thank you!
I was lucky with the spot. As long as they weren’t hiding in the pipes they were quite visible even though you couldn’t get close to them. (The photo is obviously cropped.)
But I usually only hear them as well. Their sound is so much fun! -

They're really cute and look so funny when running 🤭 But they're also so quick to hide so it's hard to get a decent photo. -

@helenclayton Haha! I can imagine!

And same, I have seen one before but only extremely briefly. -
Congrats!

A couple of weeks ago I was at my usual spot for taking photos. Suddenly a roe deer (out of sight) startet "barking" in panic and I could hear them fleeing through the shrubs. Afterwards I heard some rustling coming towards me and was curious what startled poor deer. Then a water rail came out of the shrubs, crossing the path I was waiting on and was out of sight within seconds.
The bird running looked too goofy. I don't know why the deer was so scared. 🤭 -

Well, before I knew water rails live there I sometimes wondered if a little boar gets tortured. But since here we don't have preditors brave enough to face mommy boar I was confused untill learning about the water rails.
