@petergleick It's incredibly dumb of them. If Republicans actually want to ensure their hold on the government (which of course I don't want them to do, but if I were their strategist), they should come out against Trump as a guy who wants to take your guns, and oust him from office. It would humiliate Democrats and likely split the party. They should rally around a "good guy with a gun" and prove they are the law and order party who fights tyranny. They would win. But they're dumb.

sure it would but there is no decent GOP, much less a handful of GOPs, they've worked tirelessly for fascism since Ronald Reagan, over 40 years, they are not going to quit now with the goal in reach

I don't know much about US-Senators and House Representives. But I'd like to write letters to appeal to reason and humanity to those, who might just need a nudge from abroad and within. We all could try to talk reason. It might work, who knows?!you can't seriously imagine that the party of white supremacy is open to reason

some of them are more polite about it but they all hold the same beliefs
if it makes you feel better, by all means try to use sweet reason, but those who have been using sweet reason for the last century can tell from experience that it simply doesn't work on these people (for that matter, arguing from reason & logic works only on a minority of people even among decent people, most people act based on emotion -- emotion is the driver of human psychology)

It's partly because the hard right realised some time ago that if democracy continued, they'd be losing elections forever, so when an opportunity to sideline democracy comes up, they seize it
