#Iran state media said large crowds gathered in several cities following calls for pro-government demonstrations. BBC Persian has seen text messages inviting people inside the country to attend these demonstrations, while also warning them not to take part in anti-government protests.
Khamenei described the day as “historic” and said it had “thwarted the plans of foreign enemies”.

People in Iran tell BBC Persian that even sending text messages is extremely difficult, phone calls inside Iran have also been cut off for periods of time. Those who have spoken to BBC Persian also talk about protesters chanting slogans at night from inside their homes.

TACO again. Over-promises and under-delivers. I don't think a US intervention would improve matters, it rarely does, but promising support probably emboldened a lot of those people now filling the morgues. The world could really do with a prolonged period of American isolationism. Militarily, politically and in trade. Those Greenland MAGA hats are right. Make America Go Away. -

@fulelo a probably naive question, can we be sure that these images are of pro-government demonstrations instead of just more images from protestors being rebranded?

@McNeely likely yes, the regime has quite a few levers to get people out rallying, too - we discussed some of these here https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct6qpb if you look up rallies on Quds day, these are usually people out there not necessarily voluntarily, for size comparison...
