@libreoffice I wanted to ask for years. Is there a simple edition of LibreOffice? "LibreOffice SE"
Or is there a way I can have all the options I don't use or don't understand thrown out?
I would like to pay, perhaps others too. Am happy to contribute a bit to a crowdfunding.
@rrustema @libreoffice If I'm understanding this correctly (i.e. simplifying the interface) that's a real tricky thing to ask for. After all, different people need different parts of the interface. Stripping it back to the bare essentials will mean different things to each of those users.
However, the interface is highly customizable. There are a ton of options right there in the View menu, and if you select "User Interface" you can choose a preset that fits your wants/needs.

@rrustema @libreoffice Also, a hot tip - if you want a distraction-free writing experience in Writer, hit Ctrl+Shift+J to toggle full-screen mode. It hides absolutely everything and then it's just you and the words.

@mausmalone @libreoffice Different people need different things from the interface, I am sure. But surely there are more and less popular functions.
For the crowdfunding we can do a survey.
Already under the file menu. "Open Remote... " Why would I want to open a remote file? From where, when, how? I just want to write. Strike it, it is confusing. "Wizards... Fax" What? A time machine? "Wizards... Agenda" That is something else!
The list of crap that can be wielded is endless...

@libreoffice oh no, not the commie platform!
Great to have you here LibreOffice!
@kcweller I've heard this claim. by people who use an open source product. The cognitive dissonance is strong with these ones.

@libreoffice very cool

@ghouston @oblomov @libreoffice I do find it strange that there seems to just be this accepted wisdom that 'Mastodon is a usability nightmare'.. parroted widely, including by those who claim to love open source and have tried it. I just don't see it.
I don't think that people are lying?
You could argue that they "just" need to put in a bit more effort, but maybe it's best to find ways to further improve the user experience?
There's some really low hanging fruit, like https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/37690.

@libreoffice Took a glance how twitter reacted and decided to personally thank you for supporting FOSS.
People talking that there no audience on Mastodon? Lets boost, share and like and show how many different flavours of Fediverse exists!
Again thank you for giving option to ditch MS office and have portable options which helped me not once.

that «Mastodon is fascist social media» is really *chef kiss*
@oblomov @eniko @libreoffice I really wonder what the reasoning is. But not enough to ever go back to that site and ask

@libreoffice@fosstodon.org Fediverse needs orgs like LibreOffice to help make it what it should be.
It wont be easy for orgs to make it work given user numbers but LibreOffice being active on fedi does make it a step closer.
Please have a look at Piefed, its a great fediverse platform similar to reddit and something LibreOffice could make use of. -

@libreoffice Why does it seem like more and more people are leaving X or at least minimizing their activities there?
-
@libreoffice Not bad, that's only two years or so of implicitly supporting a fascist. Better late than never.
Triple bonus points for removing the X link from your website though. Well done!
@alan @libreoffice some good advice I once heard was "never criticize someone for doing the thing you want them to do"

Why reducing only, @libreoffice ?
Be brave and leave toxic big-data-platforms! -

@stefan @ghouston @oblomov @libreoffice yeah, I'm all in favour of usability improvements. Nothing complex is ever finished and certainly not perfect. I just don't see how anyone who can function unaided in the general world can't use mastodon, especially someone who has used Twitter / X. Really the only 'issues' I can imagine are initial uncertainty about choosing an instance, and the fact that 'feed' will be very quiet unless / until you proactively populate it.
