@0mega Ich bin auch ein n00b! Geht nur ums Spaß haben. Wenn genug zusammen kommen, gibts sich auch Team Deathmatch oder Capture the Flag.

@cryptgoat @0mega wär auch dabei, vorallem insta, da war ich früher viel unterwegs und auch ein gefährlicher gegner, heute wahrscheinlich ein witz...
@qwc Gern abstimmen. Instagib gern, nur nicht als dauerhafter Standard. Ich weiß, dass da jede*r seine Vorlieben hat.
Quake 3 ist halt leider nicht legal frei beziehbar, aber wenn das als regelmäßiger Termin läuft, können wir ja mal schauen, was geht.
Ich hab früher tatsächlich vor allem Star Trek Voyager Elite Force Multiplayer (Holomatch) gezockt, was de facto ein Quake3 mit ST-Anstrich war. Da wars auch sehr oft Instagib, was gezockt wurde. Community war winzig, aber vorhanden. Good times!

@cryptgoat@fedifreu.de Jaaa, das kann sein! Onslaught gab es in '99 definitiv noch nicht :neocat_laugh: Assault ist ja im Grunde nicht viel anders. Objectives erledigen oder verteidigen, nur halt zu Fuß :neocat_laugh_tears:

Would be targeting a #Europe friendly time but I won't stop people based in other regions from joining though.
FYI, Unreal Tournament (and Unreal #UT2004) are available for free these days and there are simple all-in-one installers available for all platforms (Linux, Windows, macOS), modernizing many aspects of the game, thanks to #OldUnreal:

Assuming I can get it to work on Linux. UT99, that is, I was never really into UT2k4. (The original Linux version by Loki stopped working for me a few years ago. Guess I’ll have to see if those OldUnreal versions are any good.)

Great! Installation is super-easy if you use this shell script installer: https://github.com/OldUnreal/FullGameInstallers/blob/master/Linux/install-ut99.shDon't forget to setup controls (no WASD by default), graphics on first launch.

I do have the original Epic version 436 running on my XP box (and in Wine, I think). That would be extra oldschool. @cryptgoat Let us know when/if you have a server running for some quick compatibility tests.

1) The the OldUnreal patches are mostly backward compatible, so you can connect to legacy servers with the community patch and connect to OldUnreal server with a legacy client.2) There is a XP version of the patch (untested but why don't you give it a try): https://github.com/OldUnreal/UnrealTournamentPatches/blob/master/README.md#windows-xp-and-vista

Discord hab ich installiert, auch wenn ichs lieber nicht hätte...
Teamspeak server und mumble Server hatte ich im Angebot auf meinem Server, für ne Zeitlang, aber hab sie dann irgendwann abgeschaltet.

@qwc Ich glaub Discord würde ich ganz bewusst lieber vermeiden. Ist ja auch alles andere als "old-school" und dezentral.
Bzgl. Austausch sind im Fedisinne wohl Matrix oder XMPP naheligende Kanäle. IRC ginge auch, aber das vermisse ich persönlich gar nicht.
Ergänze einen Kanal, wenn etwas mehr Resonanz da ist.
