    @nuwagaba2 the world is getting more authoritarian and more and more people vote for the far right, a lot of people or the majority seem to prefer to change it for the worse.
    I hope the outlook is better where you are living

        @SteveBellovin

        Goor.
        And it has the same polysemy : it basically means "man", but also depending of context it means "someone with genuine and full humanity".

        Note also that what Mane is doing is deeply rooted in traditional Senegalese values (which doesn't mean that everybody applies them sincerely - far from it - so kudos to him); and that the same values are behind a lot of the corruption there (anybody getting access to power is supposed to provide for all their relatives).

          Cultural attitudes. Many cultures valorize those that bring prosperity and well-being to the entire community. What the community values are those people who use their talents and skills to make all better off.

          True, but note that it very often means a very superficial "placate everyone with gifts so that they don't use dark magic to kill me out of jealousy", which is one of the reasons for state failure there¹.
          From his declarations, Mane goes way beyond that and demonstrates a genuine empathy towards his fellow rural countrymen (who are abandoned by the state).

          ¹Of course, imperialists murdering any good local leader is another important reason.

            What can we do to create a society where all people don't have to face the challenges of poverty, poor health and standards of living as well as free from hunger?

              Sadio Mane, The Liverpool Star from Senegal (earning approximately 10.2 million dollars annually),has given the world a lesson in modesty after some fans spotted him carrying a cracked Iphone.His response is legendary:
              "Why would I want ten Ferraris, 20 diamond watches and two jet planes? What would that do for the world? I starved, I worked in the fields, I played barefoot, and I didn't go to school. Now I can help people. I prefer to build schools and give poor people food or clothing. I have built schools [and] a stadium; we provide clothes, shoes, and food for people in extreme poverty. In addition, I give 70 euros per month to all people from a very poor Senegalese region in order to contribute to their family economy. I do not need to display luxury cars, luxury homes, trips, and even planes. I prefer that my people receive a little of what life has given me," Mane said.

              These are the true stars that should be celebrated.

              People who recognize their good fortune and remember those they once were.

                          With imperialist in places, there won't be any clear way forward. What's so unfortunate is that the imperialist are the ones in power and authority. How can we eliminate them?
