These people don't:
And yes, I know the argument. At least they're Democrats. If you don't vote for them, a Republican will get in instead.
But there is no incipient election. And these 21 people have voted to fund the organization that is shooting innocent people down in the streets, incarcerating citizens without a warrant, without due process, without probable cause.
So, frankly, they ARE MAGA. No matter what initial comes after their name.

Can get on board with "vote blue, no matter who' in the GENERAL ELECTION.
But, this is PRIMARY season. The way we get better policies is both to elect more Democrats and to elect better Democrats.
And now is the time to elect better Democrats.
There is nothing inconsistent about advocating to replace any of these politicians with someone who will fight harder for Democratic principles in the upcoming primaries, and then supporting whomever gets the nomination in November.

@mastodonmigration @Remittancegirl 2006 was my first year voting Dem after being raised in a hard right household. 2026 will be the first year I do not vote for anyone who isn't an actual leftist. Not a liberal. Not a progressive. A leftist. I spent 15 years in the party infrastructure. It's horribly broken and we have to get real.
I'm from a safely blue state so you don't need to get all upset about it. But I'm done with corporate dems.

@mastodonmigration @Remittancegirl Here in California there is a twist - our primary system is such that all the candidates of all parties are combined onto a single primary ballot. The top two vote-getters move on to the general election.
This puts a premium on unity going into the primary. The D-party could find itself locked out of the general election if the D-party fields many candidates who divide the D-vote while the R-s focus on two candidates and only two candidates.

@mastodonmigration @Remittancegirl ffs, that's what open primaries are there for! i know some of us in the uk are deesperate for open primaries - but given what happened the one time the Tories tried it (they got one of the most rebellious MPs they'd ever had, a GP with no ambition and nothing to prove) there's absolutely fuck all prospect of them happening
which, in part, is how Starmer has managed to build a Labour government that looks more and more like its Tory predecessor with each passing day -

Here in NYC they're talking about doing that but only after they added ranked choice voting.
Doing a mixed primary with first past the post sounds like a terrible idea

@Apollo98 @mastodonmigration @Remittancegirl I ran in (and won) a ranked choice election way back in year 2000.
The various ranked choice/instant runoff systems are good, but there are some caveats.
The biggest of which is that many people simply do not understand it. In my election most voters had tech. backgrounds but even then many did not get it or thought that it could be gamed
(Indeed, we did find a way to weakly game the vote - which was to run 3 candidates - we did not really care with one among us won - as a team with small differences between our platforms.)
A second problem is that as the votes are counted the "winner" at any instant can dramatically change with just a few additional votes being counted. That tends to make people distrust the system.
Another problem is that one can't easily tally up precinct counts and think that those represent the outcome - at least not until all of the votes have arrived. That tends to mean no believable late-election-night results.
