            Peter Steinberger is a great example of how AI is catnip very specifically for middle-aged tech guys. they spend their 20s and 30s writing code, burn out or do management stuff for a decade, then come back in their late 40s/50s and want to try to throw that fastball again. Claude Code makes them feel like they still got it.

            @peter Yeah, I really don’t understand it. I just spent my 40s writing code too, and now at the end of them I’m… writing code, because I never lost it. Just published a new thing yesterday, wrote it in C mostly without even autocomplete since I largely used BBEdit rather than Xcode.

            I would be absolutely mortified if I had to use an LLM to be productive, and I would find admitting to using one deeply, deeply shameful.

              @peter

              Being pretty much exactly one of the stereotypes you describe, I like it because I can quickly bang out ideas I’ve had for years without all the drudgery.

              Most ideas never came to fruition because I dreaded plowing through a bunch of boilerplate code.

              Helping other developers solve complex problems makes me feel like I still got it.

                        @peter in een bekende nederlandse talkshow werd een demo gegeven met openclaw, de AI die je leven overneemt (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4v5cHTzLN8). De conclusie was gelukkig: doodeng, niet gebruiken!! De maker geeft nu min of meer toe dat hij het project niet meer onder controle geeft…. wat kan er mis gaan😅😱?

                          @mk30 @peter I would be surprised if he'd know how to turn this vibe coded mess off. Maybe he is out of tokens and Claude isn't able to turn it off for him.

                              @peter ich feiere Calw, es hat das Zeug KI und den Rest der vernetzten IT zu ruinieren. Ich gucke schon mal wo bei meinen Eltern im Keller die Andruckpresse gelandet ist und lege Rötel und Skriptol bereit.

                              Gut, wenn eins einen Beruf richtig gelernt hat und nicht nur Promts in ein halbfertiges Produkt eintippen.

                              Vielleicht auch einfach mal die Firmen Custom GPT mit Moltbook verbinden und zusehen wie sie zerstört wird.

                                          @eschaton @peter personally i _did_ burn myself out and struggle to write code, but that just makes me want to practice _writing code_. i want to work at finding the flow again, when translating my thoughts to code feels perfectly natural, because that's a genuinely wonderful place.
