Man the first season of True Detective was great and then they had to go and just be relentlessly awful for season 2. No tonal variance, just “be the worst it can be every second of the time she show is on screen.” It could’ve done with a *little* change of pace.
What made the first season work too was that the Southern gothic was its own character in the show. The second season just didn’t have that.
