This is worrying. I always suspected that exposure to X's algorithmic feed shifted people's views to the right, well, it's been confirmed by this research. This is why the Right invest so much in X, it's a tool to move whole demographics to the right.

I'll stick with my non-algorithmic feed, thanks. Without advertising, without "preferred" posts, without creepy AI overminds watching my every interaction.

@anexiledscot I would love a couple of sociologists and psychologists to just sit down and work this one out. What's causing people to seek these obvious sources of misinformation exactly? And how do we put a stop to it? How do we protect the future?

@anexiledscot it's why I left Twitter. The gullibility of many I talked to was disheartening

@anexiledscot An echo chamber does that... it feeds you biases until your views shift, and then it reinforces those biases until your views become very black and white.

@PeterLG @anexiledscot Blue Sky little better IMHO - don't know, haven't studied, but having sampled it, happy to avoid it.
Of course there *is* an algorithm driving what I see here: who I choose to follow, and toots that they choose to boost, presented in chronological order.
I like it, because I control it.
