I don't think I've ever seen an emerging technology that's driven CEOs from multiple companies to come out in public and ask people to stop saying mean things about it.

@michi I have. Meme coins. NFTs. Google Glass. Clipper Chips.Locked Bootloaders. Automated CSAM scanning.

@michi Sloppedy-slop-slop and slop. (There, I said it)
PS: Somehow I'm feeling Monty Python vibes ("Jehovah"). Are they going to throw AI apps at me, instead of stones?
Oh, never mind, they are doing that already. -

@michi that's because there was no CEO of nfts lol

@michi @joakimfors We’re doing good, let’s keep it up! Make them cry!

@michi not true, in the late 1800s many people called telephones the "Graham-Bell telephony fakery" and Alexander got really steamed from that.

@michi Will there be a Streisand effect arising from this?
Let's hope so.

@michi im sus, like it almost seems like reverse psychology (i dont trust these guys lol). Buuut, at face value, this makes it even more fun to say what it is; it gives it a fresh feeling of class solidarity

@michi it's actually hilarious. They are now quite certain that they have hugely miscalculated and that deep learning does not lead to AGI and never will. Instead, sunk cost fallacy is destined to first further increase investment of all kinds of money that could be better spent elsewhere. When the bubble finally pops, this will then lead to the biggest financial crisis since the 1920s as everyone realises that they are never going to see profits. Hopefully it will take them down with it...

@michi I don't have negative feelings against AI in general, because I know and understand that AI is much more than LLMs and other generative algorithms. However AI slop can go to hell.

Just in case they develop AGI (they won't, certainly not based on LLMs), I guess they want to be on its "good side"?

@michi it would be like if the President of USB said "Stop Being Mean About Our Awesome A Connector; we called it A for a reason".

@michi the richest companies in the world no less. Really proves the old adage that the privileged view any kind of personal inconvenience as oppression.

People are realizing that AI isn't a product, it's not even a business decision, it's a political weapon and it's not on our side.

It's all fun and invisible hands until someone gets an AI out.

@michi Their bank accounts are why they are so pathetically sloptimistic

Like a couple of 20 something with big egos having funding for their startups refused half way into their pitch because the product is shit and there's no way in hell it will ever make a profit.

@michi @krzyzanowskim We can maybe get beyond calling it slop if you stop forcing it down our throats.
Message to MicroSoft - I didn't ask for this to be included with Office 365. You tricked me into paying for it so I think it's fair to call it #slop
it is wild to see the CEO’s begging…
