WOMEN
are 51% of the population but 70% of the poor and 83% of single parents doing 66% of the work producing 50% of the food but earn just 11% of the pay and own only 1% of the land

@grrlscientist A great start is to change the balance of elected officials. Otherwise, you haven’t got women around the table making decisions.
Remember this next time you vote.
Vote the same - get the same, and nothing changes.

@t3rcermillenium @grrlscientist voting for women isn't enough when men can filter the women that can be voted for. Austria's previous women's affairs minister was a woman who basically said that it was great that we had feminism, but that it has since reached its goal and that we can do away with it now.

@punissuer @grrlscientist That’s a fairs point.
In Ireland, we have the “Electoral (Amendment) (Political Funding) Act 2012”
This law introduced gender quotas requiring political parties to ensure that at least 40% of their candidates in general elections are women, and at least 40% are men (both were 30%but changed for the 2020 election).
Political parties that fail to meet these quotas face financial penalties of a 50% reduction in their state funding.
It’s a start.
