Fucking wild to me that Pro-LLM people will pretend not to understand the difference between a person torrenting Dr Who to watch and the richest corporations on the planet hoovering up all information to feed into plagiarism machines.

@dreid in my experience, many do, but they feel like the ends justify the means, so they want to look the other way

@dreid willful ignorance for what end? it all feels like such short-term thinking, avoiding truth. burying the world in cognitive dissonance for what? brief exercises of power? sometimes it just feels exhausting living in the muddle of baloney servicing the morbidly wealthy.

@dreid plenty are building and advocating open source LLMs and hardware - which is the cure for corporate capture. The billionaires are making a play for control of AI _ they are desperate to get legislation to give them a monopoly- because AI can just as easily result in the opposite outcome - empowerment of the masses and tbe elimination of billionaires - but it’s undermined relies on true open source innovation and distribution of AI as public good.
