      #PhotoOfTheDay and it's #hammertime

I always enjoy taking a well-used old hammer and putting a mirror polish on its face. The contrast between shiny and old crunchy metal is always a very pleasing aesthetic to me, aside from it being practical for the blacksmith as well.

@croyle real peening hammers looked very similar to this. Not so shiny, but not very far from 😎

@mcSlibinas I have a lot of peening hammers and none of the peens are that smooth and shiny, but I do tidy them up if needed.

@glitchcake Brief answer: Like any metal polish, you start with a rougher grit on a belt or sandpaper or whatever, and then work your way up to finer grits and then if you do want a finer finish like these you can go to metal polish.

@croyle amazing. I thought peening is the lost art. So cool!

@mcSlibinas Not many people use it, but anyone that does blacksmithing or similar will often use it a lot. 🙂

@croyle my grandpa wasn't blacksmith, he peened own scythes and maybe neighbour sometimes got lucky. Grandpa can kill anyone who use That Hammer for nails 😂

@mcSlibinas Hahaha, that's funny! We can get protective of our important tools. 😅

Besides the usual ball peen hammers there are other specialized peening hammers, like cross peen or diagonal peen... My hammer collection grew a lot when I started my blacksmithing hobby!
