@randahl They've lost the majority of Americans as well. The only things the junta have going for them at this point is control over instruments of violence and money conduits.

@fgbjr @randahl That is correct. Having the biggest mouths and all the money and guns is all they have. And they know it. That's why the mad rush to destroy or steal everything in sight: they know the pitchforks and torches are coming for all of them.

I don't know if Americans realize what happened between the US and Denmark.

No matter whom I listen to, the feeling is the same: Our bilateral relationship is dead.

I grew up in a country filled with gratitude towards The US, because of The Normandy Landings. The US was loved.

The feeling now is anger. Our Kingdom has been threatened twice in 100 years: Hitler's occupation and Trump's attempted annexation of Greenland.

It saddens me, but I sense this will not easily be forgotten.

@randahl it saddens me as an American, but we brought it in ourselves, the ultimate FAFO.

And the problem isn't Trump, the problem is this society that allowed him into power, most egregiously the second time.

Unreconstructed confederacy, from the klan to the deranged MAGA death cult in Christian costume.

The two party electoral system where a small group extracts massive income streams well into their senility, while ignoring the public.

A public so easily distracted & willingly ignorant that their oppressors can convince them their neighbors are the enemy.

Yeah, I thought about that, but this was also part of clearing the Germans out, so not a completely obvious threat to the country. But people were relieved when they left, it wasn't a given thing.

The Soviet invasion plans for Denmark, complete with gas attacks, amphibious landings and nuclear attack were very different.

@notsoloud @martinvermeer @randahl A subtle note. In a Bornholm church yard are gravesites (I can't remember exactly where)There are 9 or so Russians soldiers buried there but not in the churchyard proper, on the other side of the stone fence. The Danes could see intent beyond action.

The narcissism to try to force all this on the rest of the world in the delusional name of freedom.

This country will not quickly recover from this episode. Many will resist & fight it from within, but the forces are powerful & entrenched.

@randahl Canada has gone through a similar transformation. It started with talks of annexation and 51st state rhetoric a year ago.

Now their politicians are actively calling for the province of Alberta to break off and join the US.

@justinlachance @randahl It would make more sense for Alaska to join Canada. That would relieve the US from having Russia as a neighbour, as they seemed to want.

@jgivoni respectfully, you must accept that the rot within the US runs far deeper than "Trump and his fascist pack" from our point of view.

Understand that we don't hate the American PEOPLE (well, not the two thirds of them that are not fascists at least), we feel sorry for them...watching their country as they have known it disintegrate is unimaginable! But also understand this: the US has suffered a broad, systemic sociopolitical breakdown, and "voting the bums out" will not be the end of the problems, it is merely the first step in a healing process that could take many years, decades even, to fully sort out.

@randahl It should not be forgotten. That this has happened so quickly and with no real resistance from the US political sphere shows the US government is not trustworthy and any pretence to 'special relationships' is a farce.
Their own constitution is not worth the paper it is written on.

We have to operate on those principles.

@ePD5qRxX @feather1952 Indeed. What is needed should have occurred during the Civil War. Rather than execute every motherfucking confederate, they stupidly allowed for their transition and education. Cancer doesn't learn. Nazism is cancer. We have the receipts from WWII. The GOP is the modern day confederacy and is worth no more than cancer is worth to any one or any thing.

It's sad and infuriating from our side, too. Our democracy is dead. Our system of checks and balances is dead. So although something like 90% of Americans polled were strongly against attacking our friends and allies, there was somehow no way to stop this travesty. I blame everyone in DC. I am confident we'll get our democracy back. But the loss of our allies is permanent. It's tragic. My silver lining is this: ironically, America alone doesn't need to be armed to the teeth anymore.

@randahl Unfortunately, I believe that most people in the USA don't know what is going on in the relationship between the USA and Europe. If they have an inkling, they probably don't know most of it.

Americans that are just watching regular news and are not actively looking for neutral information... are inundated with propaganda about the greatness of Trump.

Case in point the recent Fox News coverage of Trump at Davos where he soundly defeated the EU.... ... .. 😑

                                    💔

@randahl More or less same here in France. But I fear our own ruling class, as well as being angry at the US, is in the same time taking notes. Many many politicians here are eager to implement most of Trump's nazi politics.

@randahl hear the same in Belgium (center of the EU), less so as we weren't the direct victim, but before nobody would talk bad against US.

Now everyone call them Lazy, Traitor etc

@virtuous_sloth @randahl he's too dumb to realise each time he threatens, each time he lose soft power.

to the point one day you will have people that simply ignore US when they talk (like Russia today).
