@herissonrose Don't I know that? We have several Not-my-cats - no way of keeping them out of the garden or away from our cats' food. So actually we hide the food once we leave the room where it is served. Still they come, more so, if the weather is bad. I wouldn't mind so much, but they smell ...

@SusanneDoering Yeah we have to do that.. hide the food. He pushes Jasper out of the way and ate everything.. so we feed J indoors now (it was difficult at first because our other make cat was mega-jealous of him)

This does not deter Neighbour Cat at all..

He still comes in, slaps Jasper out of his bed, and settles down for a nap.

He looks cute but is quite the bully..

      @Lojie He's playing cute 😩

But beware! Behind that sweet face, is a bully and a vandal!

Also he's not fixed, and uh.. "marks" things. My mum isn't keen on him being in the garage because of this.

Jasper has been exonerated from the potato incident, as it was probably this guy.

He's also ripped open sacks of dog food and made a mess..

Again *This cat is NOT starving* my neighbours feed him.

He just prefers dog food, and bullying my sweet Himbo cat out of his favourite napping spots 😩

@kelkyag @Lojie Absolutely, I'm psyching myself up for *that* conversation..

The last time I asked an older french person about maybe, perhaps, getting his female cat spayed (there were 20+ kittens that summer in his garden - all the descendants)

            It went.. very badly 😩

Tho tbf this couple are much nicer.

There is even a local program for fixing feral cats! I've mentioned it to several people! It usually falls on deaf ears..

@kelkyag @Lojie This summer tho, I will be ready with a crate trap.

The waves of feral boys leaving the old man's cat colony / showing up here will be TNR'd if I can catch them..

Ooof, that's a lot to deal with. I hope they were at least feeding & taking care of the kittens (but have doubts).

May the conversation with your current troublesome visitor's people go much better.

Best wishes for your TNR project! That's a LOT of work. We've adopted two cats from the yard, then trapped a couple and befriended several more to bring them to the local shelter & adoption agency, but that's over five years, not a constant flood.

@kelkyag It's very much the Constant Flood 😬

Cat guy lives 2 gardens and a field below us, and apart from leaving out food, does nothing about the colony. An attitude that's unfortunately common here in France.

(Tho his situation was so bad the village Mayor tried to intervene)

I've adopted.. (holy crap) *8 feral cats* from that colony now.

We were feeding / trying to catch 5 males this summer, inc. Jasper and cow print guy. The rest were too wary of humans. A crate is the only way.

                    So much too much.

I hope the Mayor will at least promote the cat neutering program and make it as easy as possible for people to use it. Has the Mayor given up on the unmanaged colony, or is that still being worked on?

@kelkyag The TNR scheme is well promoted on posters + village newsletter. But few people seem to use it.

There are several *massive* colonies of feral cats, and few people bother fixing their own cats, which adds to the problem.

Thought it was just me failing (I mentioned it to Cat Guy - which did not go well, and little old lady whose cat's kittens had just had kittens. Blank stare)

Generational thing? Or coming from a not local (and not French) person and seen as pushy / overstepping? 😬

@kelkyag That unmanaged colony was scattered by roadworks right next to it last year.

There's 2-4 cats eating the food now, instead of dozens. But that just means they went elsewhere, problem not gone just less visible. Until kitten season starts..

..and it's not the only (or biggest!) feral cat colony around here 😭

Some of each, with large side of not caring about this in particular enough to bother, I imagine. Everyone's got to pick their battles.

Many, many sympathies, and hoping that you find local allies.
