Made an "analog" YouTube book for my kid so she can choose what she wants (from pre-approved list) without being exposed to a thumbnail hellscape.

@gvy_dvpont Oh, such a nice idea
Can you provide some details on hardware and software? -

For the scanner, I'm using one of these with an ESP-32 attached:https://shop.m5stack.com/products/atomic-barcode-qr-code-scanner-2-base
And then I have Home Assistant + Jellyfin running on a server. When I scan the QR code, essentially my server looks up the jellyfin media ID and tells home assistant to play it on my TV

@jensliebau It's slightly messier than that because I also have a service that downloads the videos off of YouTube and dumps them into Jellyfin

@gvy_dvpont I do something similar but with NFC cards. Though the QR code idea had crossed my mind as being more cost effective.

@philrw nice! Yeah I was about to do an NFC thing but what stopped me was remembering my 3 year old can't read yet and so I'd have to somehow attach an image to each card. And I was like, if I'm gonna have to print something, I don't want to also have to cut every one. So here we are

@gvy_dvpont @Triplefox honestly genius, good on you for taking an interest in guiding rather than scolding

@gvy_dvpont
Now this is really clever parental control.
