If you watch one speech this week, let it be this one: Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney burns Trump’s dream world to the ground, to the applause of the entire World Economic Forum.

@randahl His French is excellent.

@randahl
Before everyone starts jumping up and down with joy over Carney's speech...here's the other side of the coin presented by my Prime Minister...

Carney leaves door open to paying fee to join Trump’s Gaza 'Board of Peace'
https://nationalpost.com/news/carney-leaves-door-open-to-paying-1b-to-join-trumps-gaza-board-of-peace@clintruin @randahl You did not listen properly. Carney very diplomatically said Canada was not going to pay $1 billion to Trump as he demands, but only if the money went directly to the population of Gaza.

I have trouble getting too excited about mid-sized nations giving up on one world order farce in order to throw us all into a new world order farce that appears to be the same but simply has three fascist police states calling the shots regionally instead of one floundering to do it globally.
If anything I suspect we'll see fascism grow more efficient now that the big three have agreed to retreat into their respective spheres of influence and no longer have to stretch themselves.
@contrasocial respectfully, I disagree. Look at how the world has invested in defending Ukraine against a fascist Russia. That is not the US investing or China investing. That is sound democracies — of all sizes — deciding that enough is enough.

@Robo105 you have every reason to be proud. Historians will say, Prime Minister Mark Carney was elected at exactly the right time. He is setting an example for the world to follow.
Elbows up!

@mok0 @randahl
Dude...it's right in the subhead...
"The cheques would be intended to 'improve the welfare of the people of Palestine,' said Carney, during an appearance in front of the World Economic Forum"So yeah, I "listened".
Answer me this. Sweden (along with many other countries) told Trump and his 'Board of Peace' to go fuck themselves.Why hasn't Canada?

Fair enough, honestly hope you're right.

@randahl It's true. You cannot appease fascists. You cannot appease the regime currently running the US. None of us can, including those of us who live here. Resistance is our ONLY rational responce. Anything less is surrender. And you won't like the consequences of surrender.
But they are cowards, and ultimately very weak. Stand up to them, and they will fold up like any other kind of bully. Stand together AGAINST our regime. If enough of us do that, together, they must fail.

@randahl What to do:
- Don't visit. Our country is not safe to visit, for anyone. Just stay away.
- Don't buy our products. If you see that a product is made here, don't buy it, unless you absolutely have to. Actively seek alternatives, from other places. This puts economic pressure on the regime that they cannot ignore, and which enrages their supporters.
- Speak truth to power, and speak it clearly and boldly. Don't mince words. Speak plain truth, so that others will hear.
- Keep it up.

@randahl Brilliant talk, helpful strategy not only for international affairs but also interstate & interpersonal. Take the sign out of the window & form alliances among you where you can.

@randahl He is the man we need for the moment. Not posturing but working to create a system to retain a rule-based system
