    Reminder (or new info, maybe, for people who are new here):

    You can follow people and put them on a list that's muted on home. You know, if they're interesting but you don't want to see their stuff all the time. Maybe they post stuff that stresses you out and you only want to look when you're mentally prepared. Maybe you feel it's polite to follow back but they post boring stuff. Etc

      @dillyd I make heavy use of this strategy.

      Add the people who post primarily political stuff to a Politics list, then I can dip into it when I'm ready and it doesn't clutter up the peace and warmth of my main timeline.
      Put certain people into Too Loud. I don't look at that list very often...
      And put others into Important -- I still let them show up on the main timeline but I want to make sure I see their posts. And this way, they don't get lost.

              @stuff of course, depends on the client app you use.

              But, typically you can click on the account's profile, get a context menu, and add/remove from lists. The list gets created when you add the first account to it. And each list lets you say whether you want posts from accounts in the list to show up on your timeline or not.

              The trick is that you do it from accounts, rather than looking for some big list manager.

              @dillyd

                      @dillyd Lists are very useful with one drawback. If someone whom you have on such "hidden" list uses one of the hashtags that you also follow, such toots from the person/list will appear on your main wall. This is one moment when such hidden lists won't work properly. There's no option to add an "exception" to preferred hiding rule. Unfortunately hashtags also can't be added to similar lists which can be hidden as well. It will be great to have an option to divide hashes per their visibility.

                        true, good observation. For me, that's a plus. But I can see it being a negative for other people.

                        A plus because, e.g., maybe I still want to see their #mosstodon posts, but not their rage bait political posts.

                        But of course people can abuse the hashtags and we should be able to choose which rule takes preference.

                          @dillyd Yes, that's exactly my thoughts. An option to categorize some wanted or unwanted topics will be super as well. Topics like politics, religions and similar which always lead to some fights and shitstorms should be also mandatory marked as a CW content, because they are somehow under the nsfw category. Not direct but still. And it would make it much easier to filter them out. There are people I like, but their "morning political mood" makes me want to slap them with a shovel in the face. 😜

                              yes, I would really like both of those features.

                              If I use a list to separate someone's posts off my main timeline, I really want them off. I don't want them showing up just cause they used a hashtag I follow.
                              And I would dearly love to be able to put all posts with a given hashtag into a list. Right now, all I can really do with hashtags is turn them into CWs or make those posts go away. Which is a pity.

                                  @colo_lee Yeap, it will be very useful to have such abilities. I think it have to be reported to Mastodon devs on github as a "feature request" and maybe they'll add it.
