Oh my, it’s been a long few months haha..

In case you missed it, the Guppe discussion group system has permanently closed down.
However, there is a replacement discussion system run by Fedigroups.social. I've tried to list the active public FediGroups at:
️ https://fedi.directory/tag/fediverse-groups- To follow a listed group, copy-paste its Fediverse address into the search box in Mastodon, then click "Follow".
- To post to a group, mention its account in your post.

#Fedigroups isn't a replacement system for gup.pe, it has been around before already and they use their own software. Apart from that many groups are run on a variety of Friendica and Hubzilla servers.

I have a question:
I still see some toots tagged to a.gup.pe group accounts. Is it simply a waste of characters and time, or are there any imaginable unexpected consequences and they’d better stop tagging?

@FediTips i personally use ovo.st as fedigroups doesn't have the same "instant group creation" thing and the groups it creates aren't actually proper groups. though to each their own!

I tried to set up a group a few days ago. The page showed a message that they would contact me once it was set up, but nothing ever happened.

It's a waste of time, but in theory the new owner of the gup.pe domain might somehow restore their functions for spamming etc.
If a domain has fallen into hands of domain squatters and there's no chance of getting it back, it's a good idea to just block it.

The problem with ovo.st is there's nothing public facing at ovo.st, it's just a barebones list. It's not clear if the service will even keep going?

Hi again, I got a reply from Fedigroups, they are still working, they were just taking a break at Christmas.
If you try getting in touch with @hello about your group, they should be able to help you.
