The United States: Our president cannot be held accountable for his crimes in a US court of law.

@randahl Yeah like c’mon hasn’t anybody ever heard of The Hague
"Yeah like c’mon hasn’t anybody ever heard of The Hague"
The Hague
Riiiiiight.So tell me...whose going to come and get him?
-
Wait, they're going to sue the president of a country because his country has machine guns? Seriously?
They're going to need an extremely corrupt judge to make any of that stick.
@mcv @randahl @Paul_stilgar
"narco-terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, possession of machine-guns and destructive devices, and conspiracy to possess machine-guns and destructive devices."Are they talking about Maduro or the CIA...?

Also The United States: Now watch us kidnap a president of a totally different country, to hold him accountable for his crimes… in a US court of law.
@randahl all is fair in the "war on drugs." It's for the kids. Just ask Nancy.
-
@randahl oh he won’t stop with Venezuela, the goal was easily accomplished. He’s got his piggy little eyes on the next country because he thinks they’ll all fall to a few hours on land and some air support. It’s how greedy people think, the absolute worst thing that can happen is a greedy person getting what they want with little effort.
@CatDragon
The Franco-Prussian war, 1870, misled the Germans regarding the nature of modern warfare, and this misunderstanding lead to the Great War 1914-1918.
Venazuela was not ready, and outmatched, as was the 2nd French Empire, and any opppsiyion has not had time to respond.
Denmark will not be, nor will Canada.
As with Ukraine, there may be some quick gains, but the wars will grind on, destroying the US economy and military, as Ukraine has Russia's -

right after pardoning a different president who was convicted by a US jury of ... <checks notes> the same "offense"? make it make sense.
-
@randahl
He wasn’t President, he lost, he just kept the title. Much like Putin. Venezuela was a mafia state under him.Trump being a dick is entirely separate, but don’t credit Maduro. If Trump did that to Putin I would applaud.
Why and how Trump did it is a grave concern, but Venezuela isn’t Greenland.
@taatm @randahl
"Here's the fucked part about the "Maduro is bad" discourse - when have we ever done a regime change operation that improved anyone's lives? When? Which time did we take out the "bad guy" and the people we were "liberating" were like "thank you Yankee swine; you saved us!" When has the general population of a country we regime changed thanked us for bombing them?"

@randahl
Who would be on the jury? US citizens? My predication is that he will be released after some kind of deal is made.

@randahl This is what happens when capitalist imperialism goes unchecked.

Yep, common thieves... what a disgrace. Time to organize rebellion instead of bitching.

They enjoy this. Their only value measurement is:
"What can WE get away with?"
To them, the hypocrisy is nothing bad, it's a flex of their power.
@juergen_hubert @randahl exactly
-
@taatm @bufalo1973 @randahl That is a very slippery slope.
@rockiger @bufalo1973 @randahl
All slopes are slippery but that is not an excuse to not act.Also, I haven’t said Trump was right to do it. The question I have to ask everyone is, if that was Putin, would you say the same things?
I also hold that dictator types learn from inaction and by doing this Trump is more likely to take extreme measures elsewhere that are just all bad.

I agree this might well go to shit… but someone did ask the Venezuelans and they are happy.For the record. Trump is a cock.
-
@taatm @randahl in Spain the far right says the president is not legit and must be jailed... because they weren't elected. That doesn't mean the current president didn't follow the rules to become president. So by the far right idea, the US should invade Spain to kidnap the president... when he didn't break the law to become it. Don't you see the problem? Imagine another country where the opposition asks China to kidnap the president saying "s/he is not the president (because we say so)". Would it be right for China to do the same the US has done in Venezuela?
The kingdom of Spain doesn't have a president...

@ColmDonoghue @taatm @randahl then what the fuck is Pedro Sánchez?

@taatm I fully agree with that point. I just find it ironic that the US administration — led by a convicted felon — wants to play global policeman.

@taatm @clintruin @randahl Are you saying that if ”someone” asks ten people from Greenland and they say it’s okay for Trump to invade, then it’s okay?

WW2. That was the one time regime change worked out wel. For the western half of Europe, at least. But it's hard to find other examples.
