Liberty Behind Barbed Wire.

Liberty Behind Barbed Wire.
Took a walk on the waterfront and snapped a few pictures, for as long as I could stand the freezing wind. Went home to edit, and this fraction of a photo caught my eye. This is where my mood took it — make of it what you will.

@MephitisTouch Thank you!

This makes me so sad. 🥺 But the symbol resonates deeply with me. As a horrified spectator from afar, this is what comes to mind when I see or read what's happening in the States. As you said though, there are good people, and you stick together and empower each other. You're not your administration, and good will prevail!

It’s complicated, I think. We are not this administration, but this administration exists because enough USians support it and the rest allowed it to happen. The horrors we’re seeing now are not just because of one man or one party. White supremacy runs deep and there’s a lot of rot to excavate, going all the way back to the nation’s founding (and in truth all Western nations need to do some soul-searching as well).

@meoralis That said, there are good people fighting back. None of us are perfect, and we’re not necessarily all on the exact same page politically, but we’re fighting for something more decent and just and better than this nightmare. The people of Minnesota are an inspiration right now. May they be joined by more and more. (I know I could be doing more myself.)

@meoralis Thanks for supporting from afar, and for putting up with all my US-centric political rants. (I try not to do that too much, but some days it’s hard.) And I’m so sorry for how my country’s actions and policies are affecting the lives of anyone reading this who lives outside the US as well. We’re trying.

@bluejay Is that really the Statue of Liberty? She's supposed to be on an island...

@ogogon Yes. In the photo it’s about half a mile away, seen through a fence on a pier that’s a lot closer to the camera. The pier is blocking the view of the island.
