If Trump invades Greenland on a Monday, all American assets in Europe will be frozen by Friday. Come Monday they'll be seized.

@randahl The talking heads here in Canada postulate that after Greenland, Trump will make the same arguments to take the artic archipelago, at which point we'll be surrounded on all four sides, just waiting for the inevitable final takeover.

When I was in high school, in Canada, my friends and I (bunch of geeks) were writing dystopian sci-fi set in a Canada invaded by the US. I just hope it won't reach a point where I can say "we predicted it".

@randahl I was rolling my eyes about Greenland last year until I looked at the map. If he has Greenland, Canada is surrounded. I expect the Canadians will fight very hard not to be annexed, and I'm not sure Trump would be successful, but it would be awful in the meantime, and he could easily cut off a lot of trade options.
The same map made me realize that the Venezuela gambit is also serving his ambitions in Mexico. He's taking the Monroe Doctrine more seriously than anyone ever has before.
This wouldn't be the first time that Canada has had to plan for counter-attacks.

@randahl I'm curious what the mood is like on various US military bases throughout NATO? Are service members getting their asses kicked by the locals if they go off-base? When I was in the Navy, that was definitely a thing we were aware of when we travelled.
