As a world-citizen, I don't have too much "national pride". What people like Vance, Rubio & Co
spark in me is: I am damn proud to be a citizen of the EU. I am damn proud to be a member of a union of states whose motto, ‘Unity in #Diversity,’ is the programme of my own #culture. I'm proud to share no #culturalHeritage with US fascists or US sects, I'm proud of #HumanRights and the ECHR. I'm sad about colonialism and angry about our fascists but that makes me even more proud of #democracy. -

@Nicovel0 Do you speak about the EU or me? I'm already active. 🤫
Unfortunately, the EU has overlooked a lot of dangers coming from the US. But it's not easy to change with alternatives in such a large, bureaucratic organization. Especially in decisions when all (very different) members have to agree!
They work on more independence on several levels but it will take time. -

Europe likes diversity, as long as it’s not *too* diverse, and the ongoing refugee issue in the Med is just a disgrace.

@Nicovel0 There are clearly a lot of areas that need work, and democracy always means hard work!
Unfortunately, however, it must also be recognised that many negative developments have come about because compromises had to be made with right-wing states (enormous need for reform the decision system) in order to reach a quorum. And we lack of tangible penalties if a country or government denies European values.
All this came about at a time when fascism no longer seemed to be a threat. That is -

All this came about at a time when fascism no longer seemed to be a threat. That is@Nicovel0 why it is extremely difficult to determine, for example, that a fascist state can be ruled out. The adjusting screws tend to be more about money. We do need reforms.
But the fact that there are so many right-wing politicians in the European Parliament is clearly a failure on the part of the voters, not the EU. We need to take these elections more seriously. We need to do even more to educate people about civic participation.
