The British Museum has removed the word #Palestine from displays about the ancient Middle East following complaints.

Maps and information boards about ancient Egypt and the seafaring Phoenicians labelled the eastern coast of the Mediterranean as Palestine, and some peoples were described as being “of Palestinian descent”

And so the British Museum has decided to remove that word.

Who do you think made those complaints?

@Geri I’ve never visited The Museum before. But now The Museum has done this I’ll make sure I don’t visit The Museum. I’ve decided though to rename The Museum to The Museum since the other word The Museum had in its title referred to a nation guilty of global mass murder. How terrible The Museum has removed references to Palestine. 😞

@Geri Labour Friends of Israel, and other similar organisations, I have no doubt. They may as well get rid of the entire Bible at this rate - why would any deity be encouraging the people to flee, or to fight when there’s no opponent?
This is appalling, and the Museum should be boycotted forthwith. So much of the treasures and items there belong to other civilisations and other countries and they should be returned forthwith.

It isn't the most effective action, but for many it is feasible, and it will let them know that this won't slide without us knowing their complicity.

The word "Palestine" appears once in the King James translation of the Bible, but is not found in other translations. So you don't have to worry. It was a European (Roman) term.

@Geri Starmer is a self confessed Zionist. Whilst he probably has no authority to directly effect the change, he sure as hell has the influence. It’s a disgraceful thing to do.

@Geri "Quinquireme of Nineveh from distant Ophir
Rowing home to haven in sunny REDACTED,
                                      With a cargo of ivory,
                                      And apes and peacocks,
Sandalwood, cedarwood, and sweet white wine."
Afraid of a word, they are. I honestly despair.

@capnthommo @Geri The imposition of imperial names for conquered territories and the suppression of indigenous names - e.g. substituting "Palestine" for "Phillistine" is a common process, but that doesn't make it accurate.

And for zionists, supporting a genocide and erasing Palestinian identity is like having a morning coffee.

@Geri@mastodon.online ..UK seems to now have developed a full illness about Palestine with a rash on every face and fever inside almost every brain?
I would have thought that the name "Farage" would have caused something alike.
What is this obsession? Instead of defending an unstable description of ideas about Palestine and recognizing actual facts they seem to put much effort into useless scaffolding to support the feverish Palestine aversion?
                                          Is everybody mad now?
