On the subject of #SpookyKittiesSciencesR, I had suspected this occasionally happened, but never had proof until today. When I noticed it was close to the door, I went to investigate, which got me the pic as it stood up. This got me close enough to hear as its little paws started to reach underneath the door, through the edge of the weather stripping.

@Lojie it is very understandable. For like 75% of it's life so far, there was a far larger gap from whoever installed the last weather stripping. The stored food lives on one side of the door, and at least part of the n next days peanuts live on the other, sometime even closer if I need to dry the magpies feeder.

I bet a racoon has a good sense of smell.Well, almost all mammals probably have skilled noses, compared to humans (my uneducated guess).
And hidden food? yummy....
