@JohnnieMac@mastodon.scot @randahl We don't trust him. I'm happy he's left the dark side of rancid Nazi cunt GOP. He was fine with every one of Trump's SCOTUS picks. All of them.

Happy to have him help beat the Nazis. He's not fit to lead us, however. He is still LEARNING.

Agreed. I know non-Americans are justifiably tired of hearing about American politics. But good lord do so many of them not understand how American politics works.

The best news of 2026 so far:

George Conway enters the midterms race as a Democrat, and this is REALLY bad news for Trump.

This is a former Republican with deep inside knowledge who is now on a mission to destroy Trump and reinstate democracy. He is a lawyer, and he has a proven track record of going after Trump on his own dime.

Liked, respected, capable, and very, very dangerous for Trump.

@randahl I really don't think that what the Democratic Party needs is more Republicans.

I'll accept Conway as an ally against Trump, but I sure wouldn't vote for him in a primary.

Keep him OFF EVERY DEM TICKET.

@kevinrns I respect your point of view, but I do not think Conway could run as a Republican, now that Trump has taken control.

Conway would see GOP money working against him, he would have Trump working day and night to ruin his candidacy; plus Trump would do the usual stochastic terrorism moves against him.

There is a reason Marjorie Taylor Greene quit.

@JessTheUnstill that is fair. But it still speaks volumes that Conway switches sides. We may see many Republicans follow in his footsteps.

                    @zeblarson very interesting. Thank you.

I am fully aware of the left turn in NYC, and I can definitely see why that would lower Conway’s chances.

But I think your points and my point are not mutually exclusive. Conway can both be the politically wrong candidate for the district, as you say, while at the same time being a very strong weapon against Trump. The man has an enormous platform both in legacy media and on social media (e.g. 2.2 million followers on X, 800,000 on Bluesky).

@randahl Sure, he’s certainly built a strong profile opposing Trump. He’s good at that. But I see no reason why he needs this congressional seat to do that. He could just as easily run in NY-17, which is actually Republican held and would be a flip. (No idea the status of that race but I assume Dems will move heaven and earth to capture it). Again, he’s got such a big platform already that being in Congress won’t raise it at all.

@JessTheUnstill @randahl strong agree. The Lincoln Project people paved the path for Trump. We can accept their limited efforts to oppose the Trump regime without ignoring their culpability.

@randahl @kevinrns yes, she found a better grift, the one Conway and Lincoln Project has been running. Lots of money, no effectiveness. That's unsurprising given their beliefs. They literally don't understand how their decades of right-wing policy led to Trump. They'd prefer a candidate with all of Trump's policy positions without being so "crass" about them.

We need someone who can actually inspire people. To show up with big ideas more than "I'm not Trump". George Conway, Republican, 1% less bad than Trump just ain't something to make people give a shit.
