#Minneapolis ALERT: #ICE trying to follow white people after grocery shopping, trying to follow them to hidden migrant families.
Neighborhood groups asking people NOT to enter addresses into navigation apps, which can be monitored by ICE or simply read from a phone captured whle not locked.
@LukefromDC for the record, as someone with an information privacy background we wholeheartedly endorse this advice. if an address is sensitive, do not search it in GPS, do not put it in your contact list, do not type it into a phone or computer at all. write it on paper.
and, yes, eat it if it comes to that.

@iampytest1 Someone else on the ground reports this has been going on a couple weeks. My GUESS is they wait at grocery stores for specifc cars to appear
@LukefromDC Just curious, where have you seen those reports?
My GUESS is they wait at grocery stores for specifc cars to appear
That seems plausible; admittedly, that's a much more reasonable reading of the OOP than mine.
Thanks

@LukefromDC So phone manufacturers provide tracking history to ice now?
That means that both Apple and Google disclose all the location history of people?@nickapos @LukefromDC now?! Phone companies have been licking the federal boots pretty much since inception. It’s not even a conspiracy, they’re open about it.

@calcifer @LukefromDC Yeah cellular companies have always done this, but I had not heard so far that they could track people live by using data from Google or Apple Maps.
Using the cell towers is not as precise as using gps.
Also GPS is a passive service, so only via the map apps something like this can be done. -
@kkarhan If I could get myself and family out of this dystopian hell hole Id be on the first whatever outta here...
@kusuriya @nickapos @LukefromDC consider pitching your CV to some recruiters.
- Cut there is demand for anyone who doesn't instantly make PCs blow magic smoke and knows more than starting up Windows.

@LukefromDC
This is actually familiar. In germany we learn this in school. The nazis raided homes to get to hidden jewish families. The movie inglorious basterds depicts this exact thing.
Maybe you need an equivalent to "the bear jew" and repeat the scene from the movie?

@kkarhan @nickapos @LukefromDC Well making PCs blow magic smoke ia my specialty but it comes with the territory of doing cybersecurity work!

@kkarhan @kusuriya @LukefromDC Most European countries are also making immigration difficult. I am not saying it is not doable, and yeah Europe has so far resisted imitating US fully, but it is becoming more difficult by the day.
Canada is probably the easier option for a US person. -

Canada is probably the easier option for a US person.@nickapos @LukefromDC @kusuriya depends on one's personal case.
- AFAIK #Canada considers the #USA a "safe country of origin", but #Germany does not.
- Either way, I'd recommend to seek non-asylum options first. Like the #OpportunityCard.

OFC this is #NotLegalAdvice and I'd recommend to seek advice first.
- @marcel and his colleagues may be able to check your options and eligibility.
- Do inquire about availability tho first... Worst-case they may refer you to another, equally qualified spechalist...

@nickapos @LukefromDC @kusuriya as for job applications: I do have some recruiters in my organizer that are eager to find IT spechalists.
U.S. citizens can, according to @AuswaertigesAmt 's own Visa Navigator change their status post-entry.
- And for IT you only need 24 months of work experience within the last 60 months to qualify.
