Open source alternative to Slack: Mattermost?

@skinnylatte I've tried Element and Zulip, and haven't been happy with either from a accessibility POV (specifically using them with a screen reader). Haven't yet tried Mattermost.

@skinnylatte I think Zulip & Rocket.chat are the closest contenders.

There's also Stoat.chat (more discord-like though).

@skinnylatte we use mattermost at EFF. seems to work well for our purposes (~120 person org)

@skinnylatte We use mattermost at our co-op and we applied the limitless.patch to get through the 10k message limit they impose on the free version.

@skinnylatte nothing is great honestly. I use Matrix as my alternative for my business stuff but there are limitations. And also confluence with fediverse sharing turned on for a more discussion forum setting so hopefully people can find already-solved questions more easily.

@skinnylatte Mattermost, I'd say. Not sure about Zulip. Having a clear opinion on Matrix/Element and all that ecosystem though. But maybe this works well if used in an internal corporate setup with a clearly defined user base.
