And back then there was no "I'm gother than you" attitude, which came later in the early 2000s with more genre splitting and more we against them instead of having fun evenings together. So I consider them goth anyway, because I'm not playing along in the splitting game.

Bauhaus, Siouxie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death, Clan of Xymox, some of the Cure albums are goth-ish like Disintegration. Fields of the Nephilim, Dead Can Dance.
