@vegai I'm currently on a trial run with Qobuz, but I'm really missing some key features from Spotify.
Also, I learnt that Spotify pays 70% of our contributions towards licensing fees, and that the reason artists get paid so little is because of bad contracts with the big records labels. Is it really fair to blame Spotify then or should we be mad at the big labels?
Source for that info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szxizxMm1ww (sorry if you don't speak German, but I think there's subtitles at least)@hpod16 @vegai so how come artists get paid more on Qobuz?
My main problem with Spotify are its US ties. Such as contributing to Trump's inauguration fund, running ads for ICE (they've stopped though apparently) and hosting and sponsoring Joe Rogan to pump out insane amount of misinformation.
I'm also hearing AI-generated music is taking over people's playlists (which helps Spotify pay even less loyalties). -

Overall, a tech bro paying fascists while ripping off artists isn't any better just because he's European. -

@hpod16 Deezer (
)
️Used to be Spotify, but ICE ads and investment in warfare AI made me quit. My 17y music loving (music nerd) kid was happy because artists boycotting Spotify were suddenly available again.

@leanderlindahl Ohhh how could I forget about Deezer! Thanks for reminding me!

@hpod16 I use Apple Music to listen and iTunes to buy. So I feel that's a good middle ground for me. Buying the artists records and streaming their singles.

@hpod16@eupolicy.social Jellyfin selfhosted on my home NAS. Paying for subscriptions is stupid.

@hpod16 I really like Deezer so far. The podcast bit in Spotify is better, and I'm a massive podcast consumer. But I got AntennaPod for that instead.
BTW did you see my tip about @carl being an interesting resource for you to consult about social media and psychological defense? He makes a compelling case for the Fediverse.

@madalex That's not a bad idea.
Sometimes I worry that I don't really own any music. What if the likes of Spotify & Co decide tomorrow that my favourite artists are too radical, (like Pussy Riot in Russia) and take them off streaming services?
So yeah, I'm thinking about buying music again. Also to support the artists, of course. -

@hpod16 Deezer. All i own is digital only. -
@hpod16 I listen to radio
And for everything else, there is the FREE,
, available in 7 languages, ARTE Concert. I get to have a wild variety of Europe's best festivals in my living room, free of charge. -

My friends and I were saying we should have album listening nights together, but I think concert watching parties is also a great idea! -

@hpod16 Tidal.

@hpod16 Yeah Beyonce, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Daft Punk, Madonna and whatnot:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_(service)#Artist_ownershipNot my favorite artists, but artists anyway
Space tends to be an issue with CD's of course. One option is to rip and then stash away in storage - which is where most of our CD's are too...

@sibrosan @hpod16 Lo es, la verdad.
Should've said subscription-free, ARTE is a public channel mostly financed by France+Germany. France has been pushing to expand ARTE in all 24 EU languages and use it as our
public broadcaster for nearly a decade. Germany refused to pay, but recently they seem to have got a jolt and now propose to finance it via the EU budget. They still refuse to #EndRebates tho (a 49 billion hole frugals drill in the EU budget), so let's see how they square that circle. -

So yeah, I'm thinking about buying music again. Also to support the artists, of course.@hpod16 The only music I bought digitally is Tool's Inoculum and only because it was only available as a CD as some kind of super fancy limited edition costing over 100 bucks. The rest I got on CD.
To be fair, my style of listening to music is to listen to complete albums, so buying CDs comes naturally to me.
And yes, in part it is also about supporting the artist for me, so when possible I buy the CDs at band's shop or at concerts, especially for small acts.
