I enable the let games read to me thing in Windows and launch Forza Horizon 5, but nothing is read, which is what's meant to happen since the game does in fact have menu narration.

I enable Narrator, and it comes on but with no speech. I try switching to OneCore speech in NVDA and see this: Synthesizer Error dialog Could not load the oneCore synthesizer. Well, that explains everything. Something has fucked up my OneCore, preventing programs that should be able to speak from speaking. I've heard of SAPI 5 dying like this, but never OneCore.
@cubic guess it's time for sfx /scannow, and possibly a couple of dism commands before that to make sure the recovery immage is good.

@acerbt Tried both of those and OneCore is still 6 feet under.

@cubic have you thought of trying to run an in place repair instalation of windows from windows update? either that or try an in place upgrade from boot media.

@cubic hopefully your system doesn't do what mine did once where I tried to in place reinstall, but it ended up throwing an error that made it revert the systme back.

@acerbt Narrator works now, but NVDA still won't load OneCore because of that synthesizer error.

@cubic have you checked the log viewer to see what the error actually is? Usually that will tell you at least something, which might be useful for getting support from the nvda devs or to see if anyone else has had similar problems.

@acerbt It's not NVDA, because FH5 still won't speak.
