Hrrrmm… kinda worried about the implications of what it says for pdm that that python developers survey considered Poetry significant enough to include under virtualenv/dependency management tools but not pdm.

I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THAT THE QUESTION IN THE LAST POST LISTS "SLEEPING" AS A POTENTIAL HOBBY??? DID A ROBOT WRITE THIS?? LIKE NOT A LARGE LANGUAGE MODEL AI BUT A ROBOT FROM A 1950S SCIENCE FICTION STORY?!
@mcc Yeah, I’ve been sleeping in my free time since high school. Still dreaming of being able to go pro, though.

@bob_zim Keep dreaming

@mcc Some people cook just to have something to eat, others cook with enough focus and interest to make it a hobby.
I guess maybe I can imagine someone so into sleeping it's a hobby. Like, they have multiple beds and sets of pajamas for different kinds of sleep, and a sleep notebook to keep track of their sleeps, and maybe subscriptions to journals on sleep research.
OK now I've made this type of person up I kind of want to meet one and listen to them infodump about sleep.

@mcc i was confused by “socializing” but i did not even notice “sleeping”

@mcc It was a test to see if you are still awake.

…is this… … is this question in the Python Developers Survey weird? I feel like this is weird?
@mcc look they're trying to make decisions on possible anime-related modules to make builtin
-

@mcc good grief, the mere fact there are so many entries there is the worry. Lucky this language doesn’t have any guiding principles that say there should be one obvious way to achieve a goal, huh?

@mcc
I did a small survey of options at work a while back, as did another colleague, and various people have found various options they like that weren't on the lists at the time (too new, or too obscure, or focused on different things).I checked and no one ever mentioned PDM! But it also doesn't seem like it's disliked, or inactive, or unstable? I'm finding it uniquely difficult to find someone on the internet saying it's bad. I find this interesting and very "Python packaging experience".

@iamed2 I doubt anyone thinks it's bad but it wouldn't surprise me to find that Poetry is much more popular

@mcc sounds like one of May's polls.

As a long-covider I can confirm: "sleep" is a satisfying hobby. 🤭

Amusingly, I did not participate in the Rust Developers Survey this year because there was a question about which RFCs are the most important to you and then I spent the rest of the evening reading RFCs and forgot to finish the survey
Okay I guess that's not really that amusing. It happened tho
@mcc Not really that amusing but very very relatable
-
@mcc honestly these days i would rank "sleeping" as a hobby, it's something i get to do sporadically and i always look forward to it
@mcc @astraleureka i said this in middle school and people got real mad at me
-
@mcc I’ve moved completely to uv. It handles venvs and Python versions much better. Poetry last I tried didn’t even attempt Python version management.
-
@whitequark It is literally true but there is supposed to be an understanding that we don't *admit it out loud*
@mcc @whitequark same for "my hobby is sleeping" I guess?
-
@mcc my american friend told me that americans consider "spending time with family" a hobby in their work culture
@whitequark @mcc how is it a hobby
-
@whitequark @mcc how is it a hobby
@Kuniti_shino @mcc idk ask an american

…is this… … is this question in the Python Developers Survey weird? I feel like this is weird?
@mcc This is probably one of those things where the answers visibly don't fit, but people kept writing them in and generating a ton of survey noise parsing through the write-in "Other" results
