https://www.404media.co/ham-radio-operators-in-belarus-arrested-face-the-death-penalty/@leyrer What I haven't yet understood is, what's the purpose of killing people in such a political system?
I mean they could also arrest them, throw them out of the country and threaten them with killing them, if they return to the country.
That would be also draconian and whatnot, but in my book a little less evil.

https://www.404media.co/ham-radio-operators-in-belarus-arrested-face-the-death-penalty/@leyrer Ah the good old accusation of "espionage" based on a hobby. That's what happened too back in soviet Russia under Stalin with speakers of #esperanto because they had contacts with people from other countries.
Can happen to hobbies like people who collect letter stamps, because they receive letters from other countries.
In that climate even having an internet connection would be espionage.

@phantasus @leyrer the method of exciling people came out of fashion after Napolion I guess. Other than that: intimidation.

@zvyn @leyrer I mean exiling people, which is ostracism on the scale of countries, which is categorized as "the social death" and torture, but when compared with killing people, it's still a little less cruel.
But I guess it's more about intimidation of people who want to follow in that footstep.
What that means for Europe, when the right here also gets the power and does that its citizens too, is not something I want to imagine. The places to go then shrink drastically.
