@libreoffice now do the same with telegram for community / internal communication

-
"put zero (or close to) effect in to really trying it"
In other words: "You're just doing it wrong."
We need more empathy. We all have different needs and priorities in life. Being better at computers and having the time to invest into learning new things don't make anyone superior in any way.
@stefan that is all fair, and I certainly support having empathy, assuming good faith, etc. The meaning of my comments are essentially that in my honest opinion Mastodon doesn't have a significantly higher barrier to entry or steeper learning curve than other 'social media' platforms. Additionally, read through the comments on @libreoffice X post and it's hard to avoid the conclusion that there is quite a bit of bad faith / trolling going on in addition to genuine preference for X over Mastodon

@libreoffice Wait what, FaXistan was your "preferred social media channel" just until today?!
-
@alan @libreoffice some good advice I once heard was "never criticize someone for doing the thing you want them to do"
@TimeLime That advice sucks.

be welcoming, don't shame

@benroyce They were already here since 2019.

@rl_dane @cameron_bosch @libreoffice yeah I saw that one too and both are hilarious and great testaments to the Brain Rot that is Twitter

@libreoffice why not just leave the Nazi platform?
-
@libreoffice It's interesting how people over there are claiming no one is here, Mastodon is too hard to use, blah blah blah—meanwhile, this post here is getting significantly more engagement than that post over there.
Anyway, thank you for doing the right thing.
️seriously the replies are hilarious
"So please delete your account here, otherwise stop annoying people with your moral compass"
"Decentralized is not the future"
"I never understood why Open Source should mean pretending to be poor and small"
"Mastadon is already quite terrible when you start with it I fucking hate INSTANCES"
"But Mastodon is communist"
"Mastodon is fascist social media"
i do NOT miss twitter

@libreoffice Excellent. Thanks for making the switch to an open social platform.
-
@benroyce They were already here since 2019.
i know and you can find plenty of posts by me shaming people still on twitter *in general*
my point is just that when an account makes a commitment to here, doesn't matter when they opened the account here or closed the account there, we should simply applaud and welcome them in direct interaction with them
it's just the smart way to go about it
-
I don't think that people are lying?
You could argue that they "just" need to put in a bit more effort, but maybe it's best to find ways to further improve the user experience?
There's some really low hanging fruit, like https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/37690.
@stefan @SciPolTech @ghouston @oblomov @libreoffice people are "lying" because they're discounting that their friend groups are the ones who educate them.
"There's this new site called Facebook, let me help you sign up." Followed by "everyone can see the message you just wrote.
Let me show you how to..." etc.Expecting zero friction is exhausting.
