@pluralistic I’m all in with Mastodon since I’ve read your book. That being said the lack of activity / community compared to Twitter makes it hard to cut the X cord. Any recommandations of people I should follow?
Mastodon doesn't push people or posts at you. So make sure your profile lists the things you want in common. Work, hobbies, political interests, etc.
Use hashtags, I can't write this often enough as hashtags help you find posts and people and let's them find you.
I never follow back if someone who starts following me has no info in their profile and no original posts.
I search every few weeks on key hashtags to check if people have joined who share my interests.

Everyone at beige.party
@PonderStibbons @sydneyw @pluralistic @OutOnTheMoors @Alice @RickiTarr @adhdeanasl @Lana @the_etrain @kimlockhartga @talia_christine as much fun as I have on bluesky, it can't compete with the beige when it comes to community interaction

@lizzierose There’s a real likelihood that we’re probably not a cult. @PonderStibbons @sydneyw @pluralistic @OutOnTheMoors @Alice @RickiTarr @geekysteven @Lana @the_etrain @kimlockhartga @talia_christine

Hi Sydney, welcome
If this is any use, I've done a guide to all the ways to discover people to follow on here: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-find-accounts-to-follow-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse-how-do-i-find-my-friends
There's also a guide for how to make your own account more discoverable: https://fedi.tips/how-do-i-get-more-followers-on-mastodon-and-the-fediverse

Oh thank God I thought we were a cult but if the glorious infallible leader says we're not then

@sydneyw @pluralistic I'm also quite new, and I've concluded there's a lot of activity, you just have to find the people. They're not "given" to you.
(Hence; I just decided to trust the list of recommendations you got. Because, why not?) -

@sydneyw Be aware that a great deal of Xitter 'activity' is bots and trolls.

@mina @brunogirin @sydneyw @pluralistic Me neither.
I'm generally following a bunch of beige.party not a cultists and random people I've thought may be interesting.
Interesting @mina! What’s your favorite way to discover new people? Search hashtags/topics? Look at other people’s following?

At the beginning, I searched for hashtags, then I checked out conversations, and if somebody wrote something I liked, I checked out the profiles, followed sometimes.
So when posts started to appear in my timeline, I checked again the conversations, got in, when I felt, I could add something, and so on. Like if you were in a pub, but not ashamed to approach people (hard to imagine, I know).
If you were on Twitter, check out if former mutuals are here. They often use the same handles.
