Any entomologists around? I can’t figure out what this beetle larva is. It’s really short and chubby. I took the photo in the Alicante area (Spain) in January.
iPhone 15 Pro + home made lens for close focusing.

¿Algún entomólogo en la sala? No consigo identificar esta larva de escarabajo. Es muy corta y rechoncha. La he fotografiado en la zona de Alicante (España) en el mes de enero.

Irgendwelche Entomologen hier? Ich kriege einfach nicht raus, was das für eine Käferlarve ist. Sie ist ganz kurz und pummelig. Hab sie im Januar in der Gegend von Alicante (Spanien) fotografiert.

@mgerique The head looks like something from the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. But that's as far as I can go with this. (I might even be wrong)

@Ranzbak @mgerique Looks similar! If it is, those are the ones killing pretty much all the palm trees in my area (north of Spain) this last year, I hate them very much!

If you found that larva in Spain:

1. Xylocopa violacea (Abeja azul de la madera)
This is the most common species in the country.

2. Xylocopa valga
Very similar to X. violacea and often found in the same habitats. It is slightly more common in certain inland regions but looks nearly identical to the untrained eye.

3. Xylocopa pubescens
This is a newer arrival to Spain, having expanded its range from North Africa. It is now established in the south of Spain and the Canary Islands.
